Description
Continuing down the candlelit path toward chill nirvana, DJ Cam’s Soulshine further separates the DJ from his dirtier hip-hop origins with a slow and steady stream of relaxed Euro-groove. It’s a far cry from the Mad Blunted Jazz that typified his early work, as the druggy mishmash of breakbeat, funk and ambience has given way to the kind of electronic music you can play for your parents. There’s nothing wrong with that really, since even watered-down Cam beats 95% of what passes for downtempo these days. Furthermore, the Parisian still breaks out his turntables and MCs here and there injecting some messy life force into songs like "Condor" and "Voodoo Child." Once on track to reinvent the wheel however, DJ Cam now seems happy to let the top down, settle back, and let the wind blow through his hair.
