Product Description
Black Tahitian Pearl 8.0-9.0 Pendant w/ Diamond (.07 ct tw), 18"
Description
A slender bar of white gold hosts five small graduated diamonds, with a total carat weight of .07 carats. At the end of the bar is a link that holds a luminous Tahitian cultured pearl. This graceful pendant is attached to a simple white gold bale and hangs from a delicate white gold rope chain that fastens with a spring ring clasp.

A little more distinctive and exotic than white pearls, Tahitian cultured pearls have a silvery black color, with overtones that range from deep purple to peacock green. They pair beautifully with a wide range of jewelry choices and wardrobe colors. The pearl in this pendant ranges between 8 and 9mm and has a medium grey color with few surface flaws.

The distinctive silvery-black color of the black Tahitian pearl comes from its cultivation inside the black-lipped variety of the Pinctata maxima oyster. These large oysters, up to a foot in diameter, are farmed on the volcanic atolls of Tahiti, where warm, nutrient-rich ocean waters create ideal environmental conditions for their growth. The oysters are pampered in the warm lagoons, and the pearls are kept inside them for a long period of time, allowing them to grow to their impressive size and develop multiple layers of lustrous nacre. Because of their sensitivity to the cultivation process, few of these oysters survive to produce pearls, which is why Tahitian pearls are so rare and valuable. Elegant and eye-catching, this pendant is a beautiful accent piece for evenings and special occasions, yet the styling is simple enough for daytime wear.
