Supernatural
Description
How did DC Talk follow up their epic Jesus Freak? Very carefully, if Supernatural is any indication. Where Jesus Freak broke through musical barriers in a genre known for playing it safe, Supernatural builds on the band's momentum with a familiar blend of power pop, beautiful ballads, and power-chord rockers. The opening "It's Killing Me" lays down a riveting foundation, while Toby McKeehan has never sounded more like Seal than on the soft ballads "Consume Me" and "Godsend." But McKeehan (who coproduces) also turns it around by belting out the R&B-tinged "Wanna Be Loved." Not to be outdone, Michael Tait, Kevin Max, and McKeehan team up wonderfully on the radio-ready "Into Jesus." Once again, producer Mark Heimermann blends fascinating vocal arrangements into DC Talk's magical wall of sound. --Michael Lyttle

I absolutely love this album. It totally jams and is deep. I will probably buy it over and over again. It's uplifting, thought provoking, intelligent, melodic, jammin, well produced, well written, powerful...did I mention that I loved it?

5 of 5 stars  The COOLEST album ever made!!
Tuesday, March 01, 2005
Wow! I don't know how to describe how cool this album is. I don't know why some people don't like it, that's kind of weird to me. Anyway dc Talk never did better! This album is so different and so creative! dc Talk is my favorite band of all time (next to the Newsboys), so I love all there stuff, but this is just so awesome! "It's Killing Me" and "Dive" are really cool and rocked out. "Consume Me" is BEAUTIFUL. "Godsend" is beautiful too and the lyrics are totally great. "My Friend (So Long)" totally cool and one of my favs by dc Talk (but really, all their stuff is my favorite!). "Since I Met You" is kind of funny at first but it's really cool and fun! "Supernatural" is awesome as always! "Into Jesus" and "The Truth" absolutely are awesome and they ROCK! They are my all-time favorite songs (also along with "Mind's Eye" from Jesus Freak) and on "The Truth" all the guys sound absolutely awesome with their vocals and have never sounded better. Well I REALLY love this album it's such a classic and it's very unique! Go and buy it because your music collection is nothing without it!

5 of 5 stars  Excellent (and a response)

Absolutely wonderful album all around. The best full album dc Talk ever released. Sure, Jesus Freak was great, but the low points of that album are below the low points of Supernatural. All in all, a better cohesive release. Then again, I'm partial to late 90's Christian albums, so...

And in response to 'a music fan's concerns, if you have an equalizer on your music player, completely cut all the frequencies except for 1 MHz or so; singling out middle frequencies usually gets rid of much of everything except voices. You can clearly hear there's no 'satan' in there. And as one already said, it's probably a simultaneous pronunciation of 'you' and 'joy'. I'm 99% certain of 'you', but not so much of the other.
