this product does not include anti-spywareMonday, May 09, 2005
This product claims to protect your personal information, but it does not. This product does not have anti-spyware, nor does it prevent spyware from entering your computer. I think they should at least warn about the fact that it does not have anti-spyware. I get spyware in my computer, almost every week. It is very common. If you want to keep your personal information safe and not become a victim of identity theft, get a product that does a better job of protecting your personal information.

Don't be tempted to get it even if it is free!(After Rebate)Monday, May 09, 2005
You know folks I don't understand what is going on with Symantec products any longer? Last year with all the headache I got with Nortron Security 2004 version to got it to work, I promised myself never to buy Nortron security again.
I fooled myself this year with a product that will cost me $0 after 2 rebates, I decided to give the 2005 a shot, bought it, installed it and wish I did not!.
Here are the reasons why I hate the 2005 Nortron Security version:
1-I Uninstalled my 2004 version, installed the 2005 version and it did not install properly, I had to uninstall it and then install it all over again.
2-Still the software did not install properly, Symantec recommends uninstalling all the Symantec programs from the computer, I used Window's Install clean utility (they tell you where to get it) to get rid of all their programs, delete all the folders called Symantec, and clean the registry,...what the heck???? Does any one know in Symantec what they are doing?? How can a company like that stay in business making money for their stockholders?
Why I need to waste 2 days and still not make this product work?
3-Ok folks, listen to this joke after uninstalling all Symantec software, I couldn't re-activate the rest of the software anymore "I was told that I exceeded the limit!"
4- After all the installing and unistalling, the software was finally installed, but the live update would not function properly; it does only a partial update, and certain items it failed to update them. Symantec recommends that you install a new version of live update, and they show you 2 files, and tell you to download one of 2 files;neither file was getting downloaded!
5-I wonder those pros that rate their software as one of the best on the market, do they really go thru what the average user goes thru, or they just install it on a newly formatted hard disk and test it? Perhaps Symantec should inform the user to format their hard disk, and then install their software!!
Nortron Security 2005 is a bad medicine for your PC and as far as I am concern gets a zero star.

Unacceptable slowing of system performanceThursday, May 05, 2005
My Father installed this on his 1.7 GHz Pentium with 128 MB of DRAM (admittedly not enough RAM)) and his PC, which used to respond quickly and perform fine, is dog slow. Using his PC is now an incredibly frustrating experience. I recommend uninstalling and using standard virus software and/or another manufacturer's firewall.
Products like these are products that can trash a reputation, and deservedly so.

Why I deleted NIS 2004Tuesday, May 03, 2005
Most of the features of NIS are now available elsewhere for free, so Norton/Symantec may have little financial incentive to fix or upgrade this product. Windows XP has a perfectly good firewall. Windows also offers a free beta antivirus program. Other Microsoft-approved vendors offer antivirus programs for free for up to a year. Free ad blockers are everywhere. SpyBot and AdAware are free. The only features you can't get for free are parental control and the related privacy protection.
My Dell computer with 512Mb RAM and bundled with NIS 2004 was slow to boot and slow to load IE, and seemed to require constant tinkering. And the free SpyBot and AdAware programs were constantly locating files and cookies which got past NIS. I stuck with it because I liked an earlier version of NIS on my old computer. Finally, I had had enough, and deleted NIS 2004. Then I turned on the Windows firewall and downloaded an antivirus program. Now I love my computer again: quick to boot, quick to load IE, no problems.

Internet Security means while your are online?Tuesday, May 03, 2005
OK I read all the bad reviews and avoided this product until I tried to renew my subscribtion to McAfee which could do nothing but try to sign me up for 90 dollars worth of stuff I didn't want while refusing to sign me up for what I did want. So I went to Norton and download the trialware and perhaps my big mistake was to download the antivirus trialware instead of the IS verson. The anti-virus worked fine so I decided to go with the IS 2005. The first thing it did when I downloaded it was wipe out all of my proxy settings which disconnected me from the internet. After about 8 hours of tech support with my ISP we finally realized that the disable function of the IS software wouldn't function. So I had to get on the phone with Symantec to deal with that issue which resulted in dumping the software until I could get back online. Once my DSL connection was again functional which involved resetting the modem after a long process of resetting my proxy settings manually failed I contacted Symantec again to re-download the program. The tech asistant was ready to abandon me before the download was complete and I made him STAY on the line to wait for the process to do what it did before - which was to wipe out my modem settings which it did for him most cooperatively. After deleting several files manually the tech assitant said that the problem was way out of the scope of himself or the supervisor and that they had to do some research to get back with me. I was promised to hear from him the next day. There was no return call. In the meantime I reset my modem and reconnected myself to my DSL line and managed to run live update with IS turned off. This did not correct the problem. As it stands I have to turn IS off to get an internet connection which rather defeats the purpose? Isn't this the sort of bug you make sure doesn't happen when you market and INTERNET SECURITY program via a process that every programmer knows as debugging? OK, so while I was working with my computer over the weekend the program decied to unsuscribe itself and change my proxy settings again. Are we having fun yet? Once resetting my modem and shutting down and restarting my modem and reinstating my DSL connection I had to re-run the registration process. Presently it appears that the anti-virus software runs while I am online after I turn the IS off, which also turns, irretreivably, my firewall off - a program and subscription that I paid additional $$$$$$$ for a month or so ago. I tried to email tech support at symantec today but when I submitted my question the website refused to accept that I had picked the option connectivity and so I had to select an unrelated problem to get the website to submit the question. You know some of the complaints were that this program had a lot of bugs, but this is beyond being totally and utterly unprofessional, THIS is totally unreasonable.
