5 of 5 stars  We Are Going To Eat You!!!

-Zombie is probably my favorite zombie movie I have seen. Directed by the God Father Of Gore, Lucio Fulci(The Beyond, City of the living dead, Zombi 3).
PLOT: The plot is done well, a voodoo curse brings the dead back to life on an island, eventually spreads to the city.
ZOMBIES/GORE: The zombies and gore in this movie are the best of the best. The zombies look great, the best ive seen. Very well done. The gore is also very good with scenes like the classic eye splinter scene.
FILMWORK/DVD: The filming is good and helps make the movie scary. Anchor bay did a good job puting the DVD package together, but could of used some more extras. The quality is good.
NUDITY: Yes, good nude scene on the boat/underwater and short shower scene
THE BAD? Not much bad about this movie, the DVD could of had more extras.
THE GOOD? Zombies, gore, decent acting, nudity.....Everything!
-Overall this is a great Italian zombie movie by the best Italian zombie director. Belongs in every zombie or horror collection. Buy this classic now!

1 of 5 stars  maybe the dullest zombie movie I've ever seen

A pretty decent ending can't make up for the hour this move took to get to it.

For what is touted as an adventure film, 'Zombie' just TRUDGES along at an infuriatingly slow pace.

Also, be warned, I was attracted to this piece due to it's reputation as an unofficial sequel to the wildly superior 'Dawn of the Dead.' I can now say that I can't see any connection whatsoever to the two movies.

Spare yourself the aggravation, skip this one and just rewatch the Romero '... Dead' trilogy. 'Zombie' is nothing more then a poor movie that was clearly made to ride the coat-tails of Romero's work.

4 of 5 stars  Amazing Zombie Film!

I'm no novice when it comes to horror movies, but Lucio Fulci's "Zombie" blew me away. I'm so used to the cheap plots and mild gore of American zombie films, that this Italian masterpiece was a wonderful surprise. Allow me to evaluate the key elements of every successful horror film as it pertains to this movie:
1. MONSTERS/VILLAINS: The zombies are actually scary! They have a freaky staggering walk and are able to find their prey, even with their eyes closed.
2. GORE: Very, very heavy. All you gorehounds out there will be pleased! There's plenty of flesh-eating, eyeball-gouging goodness in this one.
3. CHICKS: Sorry, but there are NO hot women or steamy scenes in "Zombie." Granted, there are a few nude shots, but the girls aren't impressive enough for it to matter.
4. STORYLINE: It's decent. A tropical island is experiencing a wave of zombie sightings. The zombies eventually make their way across the ocean and invade the States via New York, devouring plenty of victims along the way.
5. MAKE-UP/SPECIAL EFFECTS: The make-up and effects are great too. The zombies are bloody, green, and totally rotting, which has a very good effect overall on the film.
The only reason I gave "Zombie" 4 stars instead of 5 is because the dubbing is very poor and a bit distracting at times. Overall grade: B+.

My personal favorite zombie film of all time! the 25th Anniversary Special Edition 2-disc set is the best version/package of this film ever! A MUST HAVE! (R.I.P.)Lucio Fulci!

4 of 5 stars  Zombi 2 (25th Anniversary Special Edition 2-Disk Set)

Okay, first of all I'd like to admit that I was wrong about this movie. That is, I was wrong about judging it harshly without giving it another chance. Honestly, I didn't know [until now] that there was a better print of the movie available! Originally, I had checked out the Anchor Bay release, which is why I was left feeling disappointed at first, considering that the transfer simply wasn't that good as I'd hoped. However, when I first noticed the 25th Anniversary Special Edition DVD from Media Blasters I decided to check it out! I must say, that everything good I had heard about it from the other reviews here were true and I wasn't disappointed!

If you are looking for the BEST version of this low-budget, Italian 'B' movie from director, Lucio Fulci, then look no further. This is THE version to get with sharp 5.1 Surround Sound (In English or the original Italian track(s) with subs), nearly crystal clear picture, and of course, more throat munching, flesh crunching zombie mayhem than ever before! Yes, this is the uncut version of Zombie (AKA "Zombi 2"), which is also longer than the original cut and would have been censored otherwise, had it been a different distributor. Not even the Blue underground DVD can compare! What's more, we also get extras including: an exclusive 98-minute Featurette from special effects artist Giannetto De Rossi, Cinemaphotographer Sergio Salvati, Screen writer Dardano Sacchetti, cast/crew interviews, an Ian McCullogh commentary, a nice set of posters and stills and ALL the theatrical trailers! It's all here in this awesome two disk set!!

While the movie itself can be quite cheesy at times, while the acting/dubbing is so-so, the story on the other hand is very interesting. Concerning a young woman named Anne Bowles (Tisa Farrow) and reporter, Peter West (Ian McCulloch), they both team up to journey to the Caribbean in order to search for her missing father who was believed to have disappeared after his boat is found floating adrift near the shores of New York city. With the help of a young American couple (Al Cliver and Auretta Gay) they all agree to travel to the mysterious island of Matool, which is claimed to be cursed by voodoo rituals. Once there, all hell breaks loose, as the dead slowly rise from their graves and people become eaten alive! There is also the 'splinter-in-the-eye' scene we are all familiar with, and each time I view that part it makes me shudder even more! One of my favorites in particular, however, would have to be the underwater battle between the zombie and the shark!

The filming of the movie was nicely done, the exotic locales that we are introduced to are some of the most beautiful I have EVER seen (Even the island of Matool has its pretty sights, despite all the carnage), and the zombies are very nightmarish and grotesque, which is one of the elements that make a zombie flick good in my opinion! (The bald, eyeless zombie with the maggots crawling out of its sockets is definitely the grossest and most creepiest for me) Finally, the cloudy atmosphere really adds to the effect to terrify an audience!

Although I am more of a Dario Argento fan, this edition of Lucio Fulci's horror classic is actually very good and worth owning in your collection! Gore hounds (like myself) especially will want to get their hands on it (if they can find it) knowing that it is also the rarest of all the versions you can get! Don't miss out on this offer! I also recommend the George A. Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" (1979) & "Day of the Dead" (1985) in addition! :)
