Love It!Sunday, September 12, 2004
I love this CD. She's just as good as Deborah Cox on her dance mixes. The beats are not crazy and insane like most of Madonna's mixes. My faves are the mixes for "Family Affair" and "Give Me You"
But it's still missing ALOT of her mixes. If you check out Kazaa or the various Sharing Hubs using DC++, you will get the unreleased DJ songs there.
****These songs are full length DJ mixes (8-9 minutes), not album edits like the ones found on Mariah Carey's Greatest Hits (3-4 minutes) dance CD.
Off the CHAIN!Friday, November 07, 2003
I bought this CD because i was looking for something new to add to my collection of work-out music. I loved Marys original album and the remix to it was even better. I reccomended it to all my friends and they said the same thing. Hell, ive been running every day for 3 weeks to the same CD!
Not A Bad EffortSunday, August 17, 2003
Mary J. Blige enters the world of non-stop dance with this remix project. The many veteran producers make this a decent effort to put Mary's voice behind a high energy beat or two. While some remixes disappoint, others hold the fort and at least make for a good night at the club.
Of the disappointing numbers, the Thunderpuss Remix of "Rainy Dayz" takes the cake. The beats simply do not match the type of song, and Ja Rule's overplayed, raspy rapping/singing doesn't help matters, either. The Thunderpuss Remix of "No More Drama" starts out very promising: hard dance beats + Mary's exclamation, "I'm about to lose my mind!", but it quickly slows down to mid-tempo and fails to re-ignite the groove. "Everything" (Curtis & Moore Remix) doesn't quite come together.
More promising remixes are the irresistibly disco-like "Family Affair" (Spanish Fly Remix), the groovy "Never Been" (Al B. Rich 2 Step Groove Remix), and the dark "He Think I Don't Know" (HQ2 Club Mix)...all of which seemingly connect the beats with Mary's precision vocals.
Nevertheless, any Mary or dance music fan will definitely move their bodies to this groove.
Surprised...Wednesday, April 02, 2003
I bought this CD because I desperately wanted the "He think I don't Know" mix by Hec Hector.
And then to my surprise, after listening to the CD, even though I wasn't previously a big Mary J Blige fan, I found this to be one of the very best dance compilations in my collection.
Not that every track is 5 stars, but there is enough great material here to offset a few of the weaker tracks.
Best track ... definitely "He think I don't know". Also good are "No more drama" (although the first part of this track is a bit slow), Family Affair, Your Child, and Give me You.
In summary, very high energy, and a good selection of mix styles -- some dark stuff, some High NRG, some pop-oriented, some Diva, etc.
A High NRG Must!!!Saturday, March 01, 2003
I picked up this CD on a lark while looking for some decent dance. Am I glad I did! Most clubs could use the energy from this CD. I put it on my Walkman and did 220 floors on the stair climber (at 6am, mind you). If this CD doesn't get you a-- moving, nothing ever will. If you like High NRG/Dance and/or techno/trance, STOP FOOLING AROUND AND ORDER IT!
