Theres really not too much I can say about this, it's definitely not his best work but not his worst(NoLimit albums were garbage*west coast and dirty south just dont go together im sorry Snoop, he should've just got with Aftermath after leaving Death Row*) but back to the album, without a doubt his best cd to date would have to be Doggystyle*pure classic* but Snoop seems to be confused at times after leaving Death Row joining a grunty Master P then on to his own Doggystyle Records branch off and now doing alot of work with Pharrel who is a great producer and can sometimes get something going good with Snoop but this isnt worth 15 bucks in my opinion luckily I borrowed this before I went out and bought it. Snoop just needs to get back with Dre and do the true West Coast albums that he's the best to be with. Not a total dissapointment here but nowhere near impressive.

www.realmusiccrusaders.com - fighting to save music for the sake of art

Well, Snoop has now lost all of the props that he earned in the early 1990's. Snoop doing a Crunk song ("Step Yo Game Up") has as much credibility as Pat Boone doing heavy metal. And "Drop it Like it's Hot DOESNT EVEN HAVE A BEAT! ITS A BUNCH OF TOUNGE CLICKS AND SOME GAS LEAKING SOUND, WHICH IS NOT A SONG! Snoop's early work with Dr. Dre and his solo debut featured a fresh new sound that injected life into an art form (rap music) that desperately needed it. But now Snoop is a neatly packaged product that is 100% palatable to the mainstream. Making your music accessable to the mainstream isn't necessarily bad. But what is bad is when you totally sell your soul and your artistic credibility to the highest bidder and would rather say stupid, Dr. Suese-like garbage (izzle fizzle mizzle gizzle rizzle yizzle tizzle quizzle wizzle sizzle hizzle pizzle lizzle kizzle asdkfjdslakjdfizzle, LORD MAKE IT STOP BEFORE MY EARS BLEED!) than make art. Please, do not validate the belief that music fans are all sheep that will buy anything with his name on it.

2 of 5 stars  What the hell is this, R&G...more like R&B.

God, what has happend Snoop? Now I'm not going to go over all the stuff that is wrong with this album but I will touch on the things that bother me the most. First of this entire album in no way what I would consider "gansta rap". It lacks the ingenuity and feel that his other albums had such as "Doggystyle", "Tha Last Meal", and the always ignored "Dead Man Walking". These albums are where Snoop shines not just with his lyrics but his beats. When you listen to "R&G" it feels like a hashing of genres upon genres of music where Snoop is trying to make multiple audiences happy. Touching on rap, R&B, pop, and even disco most of his tracks lack that West Coast feeling. Mainly because Pharell has produced this album, I think the type of "sound" he makes doesn't fit Snoop's style that we have all grown to love. When Snoop was with No Limit I think Master P knew that even though he was with a different label, you have to keep the formula consistent. That is what makes a good album, "R&G" is a recipe that lacks the smooth beats and vocals Snoop has pioneered, "R&G" is more like jambalaya where they try to throw as much crap into the pot to try and make something edible but it just comes out bunk. Snoop, come on man what the hell were you thinking of putting Justin Timberlake on your album, I ain't hatin' on the guy but he doesn't belong in this album. Another things that made me cringe is that one of my favorite producers Lil' Jon produced a song on the album and I have to say that it's one of the most God awful pieces of shi* that I have ever heard from him. Dude, if you have one song on the whole f*ckin' album Jon, at least make it a good one. Snoop, just find some producers that will produce the music we are used to hearing from you instead of this pre manufactured garbage that you put on this disc. If someone were to ask me now who is producing some great West Coast gangsta rap I wouldn't even drop Snoop's name, we don't want to see you making Hip Pop now do we? And before all you people send me hate mail and shi* I'm a huge Snoop Dogg fan, it just makes me upset to see him producing trash like hits. Basically just stay away from this album, I'm giving it 2 stars because Snoop still has his flow which is unmistaken intoxicating, but the beats have to go.

This record is truely unique.

It sounds totaly different to any Dr. Dre, 50 cent, Eminem or any other rap CDs.

I can almost listen to the whole album without skipping tracks. There were only 2 tracks that I didnt really like, but even the two of them were good!

MY TOP 5 TRACKS:

1)Signs
2)Drop It Like Its Hot
3)Can I Get a Flicc With You
4)Lets Get Blown
5)Girl Like U

3 of 5 stars  Decent: Flashes of Greatness but ultimately POP!

This album is trying to appeal to a wider fan base so Snoop is obviously gaining massive commercial success. However, you only have to listen to 'Doggystyle' then immediately throw 'Rhythm and Gansta: The Masterpiece' on to appreciate the decline in a major talent. Da Bigg Boss Dogg as he now refers to himself, returned to the mainstream after many yars in the south when featured on Dr. Dre's '2001' in which he excels, his lyrical flow on 'The Next Episode' and 'Still DRE' illustrates the amazing style that made him famous in the beginning. Then after having reunited with Dre he decides not to work with THE producer and go elsewhere for his new releases. A major mistake, by his own admition Dre and he create Masterpieces, attain perfection, with The Neptunes he can have things not so perfect so theres less time taken and less energy exerted. Lazy and it shows with this POP offering.
Highlights include: 'Drop It Like It's Hot', 'Step Yo Game Up', 'Oh No' and 'Pass It, Pass It'. Overall though its pretty poor 'Paid Tha Cost To Be Tha Boss' is better but his older less chart-pleasing offering 'Doggystyle' is on a completely other level because it is Rhythm and Gangsta this 'masterpiece' is not.
