3 of 5 stars  OK sequel
Monday, May 02, 2005
Still a very good plotline follows our survivor from the original movie to the hospital in this sequel. Micheal Meyers is fast on her trail as she tries to get free of his rein of terror.

A good plot twist showing that she is actually a Micheal Meyer's younger sister. But besides that the terror and character empathy is not there.

3 of 5 stars  Forced sequel
Wednesday, April 20, 2005
John Carpenter and Debra Hill were 'forced' in to making Halloween 2 in order to recoupe their losses (due to legal ramblings) from Part 1.

Gorier; more nudity; bad acting. You don't care for the characters here as you did in HALLOWEEN.

The whole 'brother and sister' thing was thought up just for the sequel and was not a pre-existing idea by John Carpenter with the design for making a sequel; there was never a desire nor a plan to make a sequel. (This of course makes you wonder: What exactly was the motive behind Michael Myers's obsession with Laurie Strode in HALLOWEEN?)

Some scary moments, but they lack the 'creepiness' of HALLOWEEN. And Michael Myers here isn't as 'human' which, (for me anyway), makes him less frightening (monsters don't scare me).

Cool though how they pick up the story on the same night, right when HALLOWEEN ended.

5 of 5 stars  2ND HALF OF THE GREATEST SLASHER FILM OF ALL TIME !
Tuesday, April 12, 2005
John Carpenter's masterpiece slasher "HALLOWEEN 2" together with the original "HALLOWEEN" make what may very well be the very best of its genre. 1 & 2 form a masterpiece!

5 of 5 stars  One of the greatest sequels ever made.
Monday, April 11, 2005
This is quite simply one of the greatest sequels ever made. I have rarely ever seen one capture the tone, cinematography, and feel of the original quite so well. It blends seamlessly with the first fim, taking place on the same night with the same cast. Also, it avoided the trappings of most slasher sequels which just raised the body count, gore, and sex. This movie actually stayed on the same level as the original. This film was also the introduction of the story, which was lacking in the first film. Where halloween was an often pointless rampage of murder, relying on aesthetics, mood, and suspense, this film gives Laurie's character more relevance and Michael's character mre depth and intimidation. These aren't silly arbitrary murders anymore. The continuity between the two is flawless and it makes for a truly great sequel.

People who tell you it doesn't come close to the original obviously haven't seen the original. You'll often read reviews of this film that describe the characters as poorly developed, poorly acted tools that simply exist for Michael to kill. Well first of all, you're watching a slasher movie. Second of all, Dr. Loomis, the sheriff, Laurie, and Michael aside, that description fits every character in the first Halloween as well. And the four characters I just mentioned return in part II with the same writers and actors. How are Laurie's friends in Halloween portrayed or written any better than the hospital workers in Halloween II? They aren't. They were just as vacuous, useless, cliche, and uninspired. People who bash Halloween II usually forget that Halloween had the same exact flaws.

I was pleasantly suprised to find that Halloween II was just as artistic, well crafted, and impacting as its predecessor. Any fan of Halloween should be sure not to miss this amazing film.

4 of 5 stars  Underrated Sequel
Monday, April 04, 2005
As good of a sequel as they could have made, and a darn good one at that. Meyers returns on the same night as the murders in Part 1, tracking Laurie down to the hospital where more murder ensues. There's a little more cheesy slasher gore here, but the music and the way this movie has been filmed make this one another classic. Not to mention a surprise twist ending and another showstopping performance from the great Donald Pleasance.
