Bob Marley and the Wailers: Live at the Rainbow
|

Description
It doesn't get more sublime than this. If anyone is still wondering what all the fuss was about, check this moment in reggae time controlled by the music's avatar, the late Robert Nesta Marley. Marley didn't write and sing songs; he channeled them. And he's clearly a man possessed here, witnessed by an ecstatic audience that's clearly been transported to another, better reality! Of the many performance videos and bio footage devoted to reggae's king, Live at the Rainbow is far and away the finest. Recorded with perfect discretion by the filmmakers during the summer of 1977, just as the Exodus album was peaking on charts and four years before his untimely death, Marley's charisma comes off the screen in potent waves. By then, of course, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer had gone their separate ways, and, unfortunately, a video of comparable quality was never made to capture that legendary joining. But the new Wailers band packed its own star power, including that generated by the late Carlton Barrett on drums and his equally legendary brother "Familyman" on bass, Junior Marvin on lead guitar, and the exquisite harmonies of Bob's backup trio. Dressed in modest, colorful Rastawomen gear, their hair covered, Marley's wife, Rita; Judy Mowatt; and Marcia Griffiths (the latter two were solo stars before they joined up with "Brother Joseph") created background harmonies that remain the competitive standard today. --Elena Oumano

THE BESTSaturday, January 22, 2005
I would call myself a true Bob Marley fan, but for anyone THIS VIDEO IS A MUST HAVE!!!! Every song on this thing is incredible. It's so perfect the order of which the songs are in is even sweet. Opening with Trenchtown Rock just makes you smile right away. The solos in this thing are mad too. The guitarist is sick. So is the keyboard. SO IS EVERYTHING!!! GET THIS VIDEO!
GOOD NEWS!!!!! THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER!!!!Monday, December 27, 2004
Yes I do have this Video and as good as it is, everyone wants it on DVD, so It will be.... soon.... From what I know, Ihear that its going to be released on the 25 of January, NOW the date(S) of release has been changed before, I belive two or three times already, the recent one being Nov. 23. So Im not sure of its definate release but BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR IT!!! Some one wrote that they hope it will have bounus features, well I read that there are two versions of the release, One regular ( I think its just with the concert ) and the Deluxe edition with Carribean Nights sort of like Legend/Time Will Tell. So I have been doing resech on line at various sources and Bob Marley's Actual website always seems to be delayed, they dont even have Burnin the Deluxe Edition yet, NOR The Roxy Concert (at THIS Time.) So Surf the web and watch out for it!!

We are blessed that this concert was caught on film. Every song is amazing, and both he and the wailers were on that night. My favorite songs on the set are "Rebel Music", "War - No More Trouble", and "The Heathen". But even the other songs on this set are great. Beware because the version of "The Heathen" is amazing and you will rewind it many times to see it again. I can't count how much i've played this in the year i've had it. Hopefully it comes out on DVD with bonus features.

This is an incredible video.Dare I say, flawless. On the whole, it is better than the santa barbara release. So why was the santa barbara concert released on dvd before the rainbow concerts?.Maybe so that we would have something to look forward to in the future.Come on already ,it's december 2003and I've already been waiting for five years.Until this is released on dvd I will not part with my vhs.Highly recommended.
