2 of 5 stars  Power Supply burnt out in 1 month!

(...)

Unlike almost all other "off the shelf" computers, it doesn't come pre-loaded with tons of spyware & garbage you'd never want in a computer. It's very clean. Because of this, it runs much faster & better than one would expect. I added a G-force graphics card & 500Mhz of RAM. I'm not a gamer, but some of my gamer friends used it & were very impressed after the additions.

It comes with an XP installation disk, & all the drivers you need on another disk for those who like to tweak or do clean installs.

Last night the power supply burnt out! I'm an electronics servicman (for 30 years). It's not just a fuse, the supply is fried! Windergreen & TigerDirect advertise it as a 450W supply. The supply itself even says it's a 450W supply. It IS NOT! I fix these things! At best (and I'm being generous here), it's a cheapie 250W supply. It got VERY HOT even though I only added the RAM & Graphics to the computer.

Luckily I had a 2.4ghz P4 Gateway I hated a lot laying around, so I tore the 350 watt supply out of it & put it in the Wintergreen computer (that's where the graphics & RAM came from too). I had it up & running again within an hour (I'm typing on it right now)... except now it runs much cooler. The Wintergreen computer ran much better & faster than the Gateway computer did anyway. I had to do some mods to make the supply fit though, there's not enough space for a standard 350W supply.

Overall performance & speed are dependent on design & how much crap they put in a computer, not just the processor speed. That's why an 800mhz Mac runs as good as a 1.6GHz P4 PC.

So it's a good computer, with a crummy, undersized, over-rated power supply. If you're handy, & can get your hands on a decent power supply cheap or free, buy it! It runs as good & fast as computers that usually cost twice as much.

Also the flimsy keyboard & mouse that comes with it have unusually short wires. But your old mouse & keyboard will work fine with it. Hey, it's a cheap great computer... just didn't expect them to advertise & lie about the power supply & have it burn out.
