Delonghi RT400 4-Slice Retro Toaster
|
 |
Description
Elvis would have loved this toaster. With a brushed-metal finish like a customized '57 Chevy, chrome lift-levers and browning-control knobs, and control dials like old-time radios, it's lovingly and wittily retro. Functionally, however, it's 21st century. Four large slots, each 5-1/2 by 1-1/4 inches, handle bagels, English muffins, and thick gourmet breads as well as conventional bread. Slots are paired, each pair with its own lift-lever and browning control. Push a button, and bagels or English muffins toast only on one side. Push another button, and frozen bread automatically toasts a little longer to account for defrosting time. Slide open a crumb tray on the side and clean up with no hassle. At 12 by 11 by 8 inches, it's not compact, but, as was said about Elvis, when you've got it, flaunt it. --Fred Brack

Do NOT buy this toasterMonday, March 21, 2005
Buyer beware!!! It looks good, but doesn't work. One side of the 4-slice toaster went out after a couple months of having it. We called the 800# that came with it. It took a few calls to reach anyone, we left messages and no one ever got back to us. Finally, we reached a live person and received a service # and address to send the toaster back for repair. After a couple months we called to find out where our toaster was. We left numerous messages and no one ever got back to us. I know they recieved it because they signed for it. Anyway, it's a year later and they still haven't returned our calls or the toaster!! We bought a 4-slice CuisinArt that we're very happy with, but we're out our original $79. Save yourself the agony, don't buy this toaster.
looks aren't everything...Wednesday, March 09, 2005
I have owned this toaster for 3 years. My family begs me to buy a different one. The reason I'm giving it even one star is because I love the retro styling & this appliance has received more compliments & comments than any I've ever owned. Aside from that, this is the sloooowest toaster. So slow, that you put in your toast & get doing 5 other things & forget that you even put toast in by the time it pops up. A friend of mine bought one because she loved the look also, even though I told her not to. She also wished she hadn't fallen for the looks as hers is equally PAINFULLY SLOW.

Average performance, large footprint.Monday, May 24, 2004
I purchased this toaster for it's retro styling. It's feel is rather cheap, it's performance is uneven and it's quite the spacehog. Previously had a Krups with two elongated slots ... so it could handle four standard slices or two long slices (like the incredible sliced Calandra my household loves). I should have stuck with the Krups until another two slot four slice came along. I'm back in the market again.

Mini WOOD TOASTER TONGS with magnetWednesday, March 24, 2004
In response: Your DeLonghis are working fine! The toast is not supposed to pop up! Crate & Barrel sells the tiny little toast tongs for about $3. The magnet is flush so they cling nicely to the side of my DeLonghi. And bagel people (MY FAVORITE FEATURE) flip the bagel around so only the INSIDE gets cooked instead of returning your toaster. Hmmmn, the bagels are soft on the outside and perfectly toasted for spreading on the inside. We have owned ours for almost 1 year, family of five, we have a lot miles on this thing and NO pieces have broken, fallen off or otherwise malfunctioned. Only 4 stars because of the weight, it so light, feels a little cheap. The tongs should be sold with it!

My Mom Loves It!Thursday, February 19, 2004
This beautiful toaster was said not to work in some reviews. Since Christmas my Mom has loved the way it looks- like a Mercedes- and the way it works.
