very underrated albumTuesday, May 10, 2005
this album was by far the bands most daring ablum. they went away from the classic INXS sound that made them superstars (Kick, X) and instead updated their sound to fit the time. like a previous reviewer noted, this was when grunge was becoming very popular in the US, and unfortunately, caused this album to go unnoticed for the most part. its sad too, cuz there are many solid tracks, inlcuding Heaven Sent (my favorite), Not Enough Time, Baby Dont Cry and Beautiful Girl. I have recently become a big fan of INXS and have purchased all of their albums. I like this one in particular because it is different from all their other albums. I recommend "Welcome" to any INXS fan and any other fan of great music.

This album should have been terrible. It could have been a rehash of everything that came before it. That would have been sad. Instead, INXS somehow adopted a new attitude and sound and became trail blazers again. Too bad it didn't catch on like it could have. I agree with other reviewers who say this is INXS' most consistent album (although I think "The Swing" gives it a run for the money). Unfortunately, I don't think they toured for this record. Maybe that's what killed it. "Full Moon, Dirty Hearts" was a disappointing follow-up.
COME ON IN EXPERIMENTALISMWednesday, March 02, 2005
I bought this album back in 1992 when i was 15 cause i was into INXS at the time. This was the music i was growing up to.This was probably their most experimental album up til then. Can't say i liked it more than X which was the first INXS album i heard but it's probably better in terms of inspiration and musicianship.

Better late than never.......Wednesday, January 26, 2005
I bought this album ages ago, fell in love with it, then forgot about it for a few years! I recently went through my music collection, found it again, only to be disappointed that the disc was so scratched from being overplayed. I bought it again. By far the best INXS album. Yes, there were many 80's classics, but they were all spread out on different albums. This one has a unique flow, with a few classics:
Not Enough Time
Communication
Taste It
Baby Don't Cry
Beautiful Girl
Highy recommended. I have to agree with another reviewer who said this was "criminally overlooked."

THEIR MASTERPIECEWednesday, December 15, 2004
While I was a mild fan of INXS thru the 80's, to me, each of their albums possessed a similar blueprint: several great, listenable hits, accompanied by an equal or greater number of uninspired or often mediocre material.
Also, I believe this album was their 11th studio recording. For the few rock bands that could even achieve such a milestone, most would have burned out, run out of inspiration, or be recycling past hits in a feeble attempt to keep their lifestyles running.
This is the rare exception. For a band whose signature "sound" was such a pervasive presence in the 80's, this 1992 album was an amazing and startling maturation. EVERY song, from start to finish, is a polished gem, and there is not a weak composition on the entire recording.
I am not going to attempt a track-by-track review of this album. This is one of the rare occasions in rock history where the whole infinitely exceeds the sum of its parts.
Any INXS fan who has not purchased this album just has never heard the band's finest hour. Period.
No INXS album that came before, and the few albums that came afterward, match the sheer LISTENABILITY of this record. If you have never heard this album, you will be amazed at how good it is.
You will also be confounded by the album's commercial failure. It isn't too hard to figure out that the band must have been just stunned and saddened by the non-success of this effort.
Every time I listen to it I just shake my head and wonder, what happened? What were people listening to in '92 that made them ignore this incredible achievement? Perhaps INXS massive 80's output and success had just jaded people and radio programmers.
While this album is instantly recognizable as INXS, it sounds like nothing the band had previously produced. It doesn't sound "80's", it doesn't sound "90's"; it has a rare, timeless sound, with many subtle influences.
This CD is not just for INXS fans. It is for ROCK fans; anybody who enjoys great music will enjoy this album. It is even for anyone who doesn't like INXS. If you don't own it, consider your music collection, and your music experience, incomplete.
The audio quality of the original CD was darn good, but this remaster is just absolutely awesome. The bass and organ line in "Wishing Well" will shake the foundation of your domicile. The extra tracks and the low list price of this re-issue just makes it a killer deal.
BUY IT, EXPERIENCE IT, AND FOREVER ENJOY IT.
