Concert for Peace
Description
International pop star and European parliamentarian Nana Mouskouri is a living monument to the notion of "middle of the road." Greek folk music, Italian opera, French chanson, light classicism, and many other styles all come together in a vocal franchise (more than 200 million copies of her albums sold). On Concert for Peace, recorded in New York's St. John's Cathedral with the assistance of orchestra and chorus, the square-spectacled soprano sings in half a dozen languages and puts Beethoven, Bizet, Andrew Lloyd Weber, and even gospel great Mahalia Jackson through the homogenizer in the name of--you guessed it--peace. While her squeaky-clean voice may not soar as powerfully as in the past (whose does?), Mouskouri remains the Great Comforter of the international pop style. --Richard Gehr

5 of 5 stars  A truly divine voice.
Wednesday, October 29, 2003
Nana Mouskouri sings as no one in the entire history of the world has ever sung. Her ability to interpret such a wide variety of songs, from such a variety of styles and in so many languages is unparalled. Her voice will make you think that you have died and gone to heaven. That is how beautiful it is. This concert, performed at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, is truly divine.

This is one of my Nana's favorites. I strongly recommend it for those who are willing to taste the real peace in a world, unfortunately, sorrounded by the war.

Directly the opening bars of the music begin you know you about to encounter a rare treat,to become part of this unique event, this concert for peace.I would love to have been there on that evening in New York.Nana sings these songs with style and beauty as only she as a true star can.She recently toured the British Ilses and I was fortunate to go to three concerts of this extensive tour. She sang many of the songs off the concert for peace album. If she is ever in a town near you go and see her and her excellent musicians, you'll not regret it.In the meantime buy this album and enjoy this live experience. My only regret, I know there is also a video tape filmed of this excellent evening.Any suggestions where I might be able to find this video recording

I'm only too sorry I wasn't there to enjoy the concert!Nana once again proves her versatility: classical, folk, jazz...you name it!

The greek religious songs are performed uniquely, with respect and grace! The greek folk songs as always wonderful when sung by Nana as are the famous "Only love" and "Love changes everything". Don't miss this live performance of this great ARTIST and PERSON!
