4 of 5 stars  Easy handling, quite, no smog, but so-so reliabilty.......

I just bought my second one of these Black and Decker Lawnhogs. The first one lasted 3 years to the day almost, but then one day it just hummed, and a burning smell came from it.

So why did I buy a second one? Answer: I hate the hearing the noise and inhaling the exhaust from gas lawn mowers! AND becuase this is the best electric lawn mower I have used, and well, it is just about the only electric lawn mower they make now-a-days. I tried the yard machinec electric mower, but it was horrible (poor controls, and burned out the first time I used it)

The Lawnhog is easy to manuver. Fairly light weight. The saftey power control (the thing you grab and hold to start the mower) is cheap feeling, but effective. The height controls are actually very easy to use to adjust to differnet cutting lengths.

After the first lawn hog burned out, I really tried to find another electric mower, but the overall ergonomics of the lawnhog are make it worth it lasting only three years... well, actually I think it stinks that they can't make this thing last longer, but we do live in a consumer society... and what'da gonna do?

5 of 5 stars  Works As Advertised

The perfect solution for small yards!

The only caution I would give is to make sure that you use the right kind of cord with the mower. This is no problem as the instruction manual clearly advises of the necessity to use the correct gauge or cord size. Following the chart included in the manual, I picked up the correct cord at the hardware store.

Works like a Champ!!

1 of 5 stars  Worked for about 10-15 uses
Sunday, September 12, 2004
I bought this mower on May 7th, 2004 - it conked out today (Sep 12th, 2004). Mowing every other week, that comes to about 10-15 times that I've used this thing. Worked fine while it was "alive", but that's not the quality I expected from B&D. Now comes the fun part of figuring out how to exchange/ fix this product... most of the reviews I read before ordering this product seemed to be from happy customers, but my experience has been otherwise. Now I have to leave my yard un-mowed until I get a replacement...

5 of 5 stars  I'll never go back to gas again

Shortly after having my old gas powered hand me down mower stolen, I decided to go the electric route for the first time. I have been using this mower every weekend for the past three months and couldn't be happier with it. I have used the mulching feature exclusively, and no matter how long I've let my grass get, the mulcher handles it perfectly. No more pull starting, no more gas stabilizer during the winter months, and no more spark plugs. I am a full fleged convert to the electric mower. I almost owe the guy who ripped off my gas mower a thanks (emphasis on the almost).

1 of 5 stars  Piece of @#$%*!

We bought this mower 3 years ago. After the 1st season of use it needed major repairs, thankfully covered by warranty. It made it through a 2nd season, but conked out at the beginning of this summer. Left with little desire to fix a crappy piece of machinery, we instead bought a 19" YardMachines electric mower. The YardMachines mower is a WAY BETTER PRODUCT. The body is metal, the wheels are big which makes mowing easier, it has a clever cord keeper, and we are very happy with our new purchase. Don't even consider the B&D - Check out YardMachines.
