The best and only one you need.Tuesday, April 05, 2005
This is so superior to the film Soundtrack it's almost crimminal.
One playing of Time Warp will sell you on this.
I always thought the film was terribly made, but it's also terribly second rate musically.
It thrilled me, chilled me, and fulfilled meThursday, June 24, 2004
This CD is one of the first cast recordings (the first being the original 1973 London cast). This recording is AMAZING. The musicians used know what they are doing. The cast has never sounded better. I have heard many cast cd's and this is the best. I prefer this one over the movie soundtrack. Tim Curry has never sounded better. It makes me (oooh) shake! Jamie Donnelly does a great Magenta. Meatloaf does a great Hot Patootie, but his version of "Eddie's Teddy" far surpasses that of the movie. It sounds completely amazing. If you love or even remotely like Rocky Horror YOU MUST HAVE THIS CD!

It may be 2002, but there are times (and this is one of them) when I really need to do the Time Warp again. So I turn to this recording, sneak it into my office computer, and wait with antici---PATION for the music to start.
I gave this version 4 stars because to my mind, the most perfect Janet in the world is Susan Sarandon, who was not in the original Roxy cast. Not that Abigale Haness is bad. Not at all. But she doesn't quite have the hilarity that Sarandon puts into "Toucha Toucha Touch Me." No matter. We have Meat Loaf. And we have Tim Curry. What else could we possibly need?
I admit it's hard to sit here typing away while doing the Time Warp in my head...and tapping my glittering 70s-style platform high heels to "I'm Just a Sweet Transvestite." But I manage. This entire recording is a delight. My all-time favorite is the movie version, but as everybody knows, one's Rocky is a very personal thing. This version was given to me as a gift, and I have certainly put it to very good use, even though I'm so old I should be listening to ponderous Brahms symphonies. But there you are.
If you have no recordings of Rocky Horror at all, I recoil from you in disbelief, then pull myself together and recommend the Roxy cast as a very good beginning. If, on the other hand, you want to invite me to your lab to see what's on the slab, but you don't have this particular recording, I recommend it highly.
Enjoy!
