5 of 5 stars  Our Mornings Are So Much Better Now
Tuesday, April 12, 2005
When our third Mr. Coffee in as many years began to die, we started hunting around for a coffee maker that had a little more staying power. After reading the many favorable reviews for the Bunn Pour-O-Matic, we decided to purchase one.

After an initial setup procedure to fill the resevoir with water, we were good to go. Our first cup of coffee from the Brew-O-Matic made us both believers - piping hot, smooth, and with no bitterness whatsoever. (Until I had a cup of coffee from our Bunn, I hadn't realized exactly how bitter our coffee from the Mr. Coffee was.) Almost as importantly, our coffee was ready quickly. What a difference the speed has made in our mornings! Before, we'd wake up and turn on the coffee maker and have plenty of time to make breakfast and catch a quick bit of the news - not that it was easy for us to comprehend without our first cup of coffee.(Yes, our Mr. Coffee had an automatic timer, but that was destroyed in the first month of ownership when the coffeemaker malfunctioned and the carafe overflowed, spilling hot water into the control panel and shorting it out.) Now when I wake up, I turn on the coffeemaker, take out two coffee cups, get a spoon from the drawer and the milk from the fridge and my coffee is ready. If nothing else, our knowledge of current events is improved just because we're awake enough now to understand.

I did read before we purchased this model that other users recommended that one use the correct size of filter for this maker, otherwise the water and grounds would spill out all over the place. With the best intentions at heart, I picked up some Bunn filters the last time I was at Sam's Club. Turns out they were the commercial 12 cup capacity, but my husband used one without realizing that, and had no problems. We've been using them for a couple of weeks now with no incidents to report.

The one drawback occured when the power went out. The vacation switch (turns off the water heater if you'll be away for an extended time) must have been tripped; we didn't realize it and made the coffee anyway. Ever put a cup of ice-cold coffee to your lips at 6 a.m.? Fortunately, though, it didn't take long for the Bunn to heat back up and give us a pot of hot coffee.

In conclusion, we LOVE this coffeemaker and can't reccomend it enough.

PROS:
Fast, hot, smooth coffee
Simple operating procedure
Exceptionally reliable

CONS:
No automatic timer (a VERY minor inconvenience as it only take three minutes to make a pot of coffee)
Requires extra diligence after a power outage - check to make sure the vacation switch isn't tripped [Again, a very minor problem if your power doesn't go out regularly. :-)]

5 of 5 stars  BUNN Coffee Maker
Sunday, January 02, 2005
I have had my BUNN since 1998. There is NO better COFFEE. I am going to step up to the 10 cup (mine is an 8 cup which they no longer make) Be advised that BUNN coffee filters are the only ones that work because of the steaming design). I contacted BUNN to see what it was going to cost for the new 10 cup. BUNN told me to send the old machine to them minus the basket and carafe along with $60.00 and they will upgrade me to the new model. Now, Tell me do u think any other company would offer you that? BUNN is the best and takes care of their customers. EXCELLENT SERVICE FROM BUNN!!~

5 of 5 stars  Had this coffee pot for 15 years and it was great!
Friday, December 17, 2004
I finally will need to replace my wonderful Bunn coffee maker. I had it for 15 years and I've finally worn it out! It never stopped brewing my wonderful morning joe in just a couple of minutes. For years I've amazed family and friends with the fastest pot around. It is wonderful and I wouldn't buy any other machine. Big smooches to Bunn for a great product (no wonder the restaraunts use them).

5 of 5 stars  BUNN Brewers, Great Coffee but REQUIRE TWEAKING!
Tuesday, December 14, 2004
I have been brewing drop grind coffee for over 35 years and purchased at least a dozen coffee makers over the years. A year ago I bought my first Bunn machine from Amazon and believe me when I tell you it is capable of brewing the finest cup of drip grind coffee you have ever tasted. I really love great coffee so I purchase the highest quality green beans and roast them at home. Bunn brewers have some issues that need to be addressed so let me save you some hassle before you make your buying decision.

First of all Bunn brewers do not have a timer or clock if you want those features Bunn brewers are not for you. Bunn brewers will not brew less then 22 oz of coffee they say; I say 30 oz for a consistent cup. Bunn uses a 72 oz reserve tank that keeps the water at brewing temp; Brewer heating elements draw 800 watts during warm up and 35 watts continuously, it's always on unless you use what they call a "vacation switch," which is an on/off switch. They are not energy efficient if you leave them on, however it's great if you brew several pots during the day or need hot water for tea et; perfect for a office environment. I only brew a pot full per day so I turn it off when not in use; it takes 15 minutes to reach brewing temp. Since I roast my own beans I do a lot of research and the following is MOST IMPORTANT!

1. All Bunn coffee makers brew a pot in 3 minutes. That sounds great for advertising purposes but the experts say drip grind coffee should brew between 4 & 5 minutes for proper abstraction; a richer cup; I agree!
2. If you brew a full 10 cup pot of finely ground coffee you may overflow the brew basket; a mess for sure. Many people are very disappointed with Bunn brewers because of these problems, myself included.
3. THE SOLUTION! Bunn makes a "RESTRICTED FLOW HEAD," The restricted flow head solves both problems, just unscrew the standard head and replace. It's FREE from Bunn, call their excellent customer service 1-800-352-2866 and they will mail you one pronto. The restricted head slows down brewing by about 2 minutes; perfect! Bunn should include this head in the box, it makes all the difference in the world. If you decide to by a Bunn machine call them in advance and request this head, it's a must have.

Just a couple more points I would like to make. ALL Warmer Plates cause coffee to go stale in a hurry, they bake the coffee. It's best to leave the warmer turned off if you can or buy the BT 10-B Thermal Carafe model, worth the extra money I think. You MUST use Bunn filters with their machines, they are taller then standard filters. This is a positive thing because high quality Bunn filters cost up to 75% less then other brands, Bunn includes a few of them in the box. They cost about a penny each if you order 1000 from the Bunn web site. Bunn has a 3 year guarantee on their brewers and 3 service centers in the US, coupled with excellent customer service; the choice is obvious to me. What is Bunn's secret to a great cup? Experts say the perfect brewing temperature is 200 degrees, Bunn brews at 195; close enough and much higher then most brewers. Bunn flow head quickly and evenly saturate the grounds; yum, yum! My family now owns three Bunn Brewers; enough said!

2 of 5 stars  "Warmer" needs to be warmer!
Thursday, November 18, 2004
If you want a fast cup of coffee, the Bunn is the way to go. If you want a HOT cup of coffee, it most definitely is not. The coffee is OK when first brewed, but if you want a reasonably hot cup of coffee after that, you'd better have a microwave close by. The warmer is just that on a Bunn - WARM!
