Description
What separates White from the crowded pack of smooth-jazz guitarists is his exquisite sense of melody. That skill is on full display on Confidential, easily the most well-rounded album of White's career. Among the highpoints here is the return of vocalist Christopher Cross, who shines on a cover of Brenda Russell's light bossa nova tune, "She's in Love." Other guests include pianist Brian Culbertson, who offers a Bob James-like solo on the title track, trumpeter Chris Botti ("Stormfront"), and saxophonist Mindi Abair, who graces "Are You Mine." But it's White's lines that soar throughout, like melodies in search of words. --Mark Ruffin

4 of 5 stars  NOT ELEVATOR MUSIC!
Thursday, February 10, 2005
After listening to this CD a couple times, I will be keeping it on my iPod playlist for some time. It will come in quite handy when I want to drown out the voices of people with "single phase" minds! Yes, it is supposed to be relaxing! Comparing this to Muzak is nothing short of ignorant! On a better note, I would tend to agree that Peter White is creative when it comes to mixing up his sound with other artists. Yet another reason to really appreciate the jazz community. If you are a Peter White fan, you will not be let down.

3 of 5 stars  Elevator music does serve a purpose sometimes...
Thursday, February 10, 2005
I consider this music "Elevator music", but I think not many would really disagree. Its not the nicest term for any kind of music though, as it is suggestive of environments where people pretend to be (or have to act as if) they are classy and/or rich. Normally this sort of music can be found in elevators in hotels and some shopping malls (duh!), and also hotel lobbies, some office lobbies... you guessed it. However I don't really hate this music though... its aim seems to be for relaxing the mood and numbing the senses, and is a good filler for when before concerts start, or in between good tunes on a radio station (I'm thinking of Jazz FM... the UK one, in the early hours of the morning). Not something I would purchase though... and if I had the CD, I doubt it would be on my constant playlist. Still, I guess it probably has a place on someone else's playlist : someone who doesn't care a lot about real music. Someone who doesn't care for music with personality and substance. This is really rather bland and boring "jazz" if you asked me... but like I said, it has its uses.

5 of 5 stars  Superb Recording!
Friday, December 10, 2004
I love this album as much as Perfect Moment. Peter has outdone himself on this one. My favorite tracks are Coast Road Drive, Talkin' About Love, Are you Mine and Jump On It. The whole album was done with excellent talent including the recording and arrangements. This album is a must-have for any Peter White fan or anyone who really enjoys Smooth Jazz. Great job, Peter!

this album is a must for any smooth jazz lover, this is his best so far, listen to track no 2 and 10,and also 7,you can find in these tracks smooth collaboration with other fine musicians but still his guitar is dominant.this is an organized, mature piece of work.
