Description
This career-spanning box of three CDs and a DVD celebrates a legacy that looms larger than that of any blues-rocking guitarist since Jimi Hendrix. Despite fears that a series of posthumous releases had depleted the Stevie Ray Vaughan vaults, previously unreleased gems dominate the selection. Highlights extend from Vaughan's swaggering apprenticeship with Paul Ray and the Cobras to slash-and-burn concert performances from the final month of his life. There are obligatory dips into the songbooks of Hendrix and Buddy Guy, appearances on MTV Unplugged and Austin City Limits, and instrumental interplay with brother Jimmie Vaughan and tourmate Jeff Beck. Though his guitar never loses its flamethrower intensity, the set documents his progression from the showoff licks of the young "Stevie Rave On" into a fully rounded artistry of soulful depth. --Don McLeese

4 of 5 stars  Who is it for??
Wednesday, April 06, 2005
Its sometimes hard to understand record companies. Who is the customer that this is targeted for? If its for the SRV fans, we already have all the albums, so there is no need to add cuts from the studio albums we already have. If it is for the casual fan, the recording quality of some of the live cuts will scare some people away, since some of the live cuts have a bootleg quality that appeals basically to the SRV fans mainly. The packaging is beautiful, the box is really thick, they went the extra mile. The booklet is very well done also. The DVD is way too short, considering that you are being charged for it full price, it was not thrown as a bonus. It is very good, but it could have been better.

5 of 5 stars  An audio memory
Friday, March 25, 2005
Bittersweet for those us who remember the nights at Antone's and his last concert in Austin, when we didn't know it would BE the last. I'll never forget the day we lost him, and think of him every time I go home to Austin. Stevie Ray lives in his music, and our memories. Rest in Peace, man.

The box set contains some excellent live tracks. This is highly recommended as a must. The DVD included could be longer and this is why I didn't give this box set 5 stars. Overall, you won't be disappointed.

5 of 5 stars  Awesome collection of SRV's history

For the price, this is a great set. 3 full CD's of music, a DVD, and the book is excellent, with a lot of tributes to the man.

this is the best box set theyve put out of srv and dt so far. i think its really great.theres many of his early versions of songs we all come to know and love so well. i had this box and it was my favorite by srv. and i really dont think they will ever get any better than mr vaughan. or release another as good as this one is the best box set ever made. the sad thing is it was stollen from my car. but i hope who ever has it has been enjoying it.
