5 of 5 stars  Because of Winn-Dixie review
Thursday, April 28, 2005
I thought that this was a really good book. It was kinda sad and happy at the same time. I thought that it was sad because I felt kinda bad for Opal, the main character of the book, because I could never imagine not having a mother. At the same time I felt happy for her because she had found friends in the end and of course Winn-Dixe in the beginning.

I would recommend this book to other people especially kids in the fourth, fifth, and sixth grade. If your were younger and you liked to read I'm sure that you would like it too. I hope that reading this book review will make you want to read it even if you have already read it before. I have.

5 of 5 stars  song of the trees

If you like realistic books you wil like this book because there is alot of racism. The part is Mr. Andersen forced Big Ma to cut down her trees and Big Ma didn't want to cut down the trees but she did because they said that if David will have a accident. I recomment this book because you will learn about what happened when your Grandmother was alive.

5 of 5 stars  An excellent book to ignite an interest in Black history.
Wednesday, September 15, 1999
This is an excellent book to introduce Black history and literary techniques. The author paints vivid pictures of the scenery that are easily pictured in one's mind. She makes excellent use of similes and comparisons. When read aloud to children, they can easily draw pictures to illustrate the setting and the characters. It is an excellent springboard to discussion of Black history and American history during the Depression.
