5 of 5 stars  I'm goin' Halfcrazy!!
Saturday, March 19, 2005
Musiq musiq...never ever will I abuse it! JUSLISEN, the 2nd album by our man, Musiq, he dropped the Soulchild part of his name...leaving it out there for me, HAHA, anyways. The 2nd album from the Phill native is right where it shoulda been. The single to drop before the cd was "Halfcrazy", to me it is probably my fav. Musiq track ever...and I love this cat. Song gets into an ordeal about a bestfriend of his turned love, things go weird after they kiss and he just wants his friend back, same thing happened to me...so I can relate. Aside from that, the intro gets u going into the cd and then "Newness" is an awesome track tellin this girl about how Musiq is gon lay it down and eventually win her over. He claims to have put more energy into this cd than he did his debut but personally, I love em both. "Time" is very similiar to "Love" from his 1st cd, same type of song and very original. "Caughtup" is a continuation to "Seventeen" on his last cd, in the first one the girl was too young for him to see (Hence, the track name Seventeen), now she is all grown up and legal and Musiq starts to take notice of that. Other good tracks I like on the cd are "Future", "Bestfriend", "babygirl", "Previouscats"....ALL good jams. The cd is filled with just about anything u wanna hear from Neo-Soul, R&B, lil jazz, chill-out music, lil dance, whatever it is this cd has a lil of everything for someone. 'if I woulda knew (Remix)", was a remix with the Hypnotize beat to Girl Next Door from his first cd, really hot jam. All-in-all my opinion may be biased but I highly recommend this album for anyone who wants to hear the real. Musiq is a man who has a knack for tellin the truth. He started out just doing beat-boxin for his crew back in Philly, that is why he does a lot of that on his records, it's a nice change from all the other whack stuff out there today. His 3rd album is hot too, so cop both of them. So you know...if you were caught sleepin...quit dreamin and go get this cd and....JUSLISEN!

2 of 5 stars  What happened

I have been a huge fan of Musiq ever since he came out and I didn't realize why critics and the mainstream gave him such a hard time about his music. Every thing that I had heard was wonderful. Well that was because I missed his second album. Having loved his first and loved his third even more I thought I was sure to love his second. I however did not. It was like a totally different artist! This is probably a moot point now but I am glad Musiq got his act together for the Soulstar album which is more like the Musiq we've all come to know and love.

Juslisen is an excellent follow-up to Musiq's Aijuswannasing - he really stepped up his game and showed that he has the staying power to improve and last in this industry. I've only had the pleasure of seeing/hearing perform live twice and unfortunately both times his vocals were off so I hope by now he has improved his stage presence & performances. That being said, the production on this album is virtually flawless and I love the cd design of an old 45 record!

The standout tracks to me are:

Caught Up

Religious - I adore the hymnal sound mixed with new millenium funk

Babygirl - love how his background vocals are blended with the lead

Halfcrazy - love this song - listen to it over and over

Time - love the Aaries girls singing background, one of those songs that made me think about my life in general

Previous Cats

Don't Change - instant anniversary son

Something - ambitious remake of a George Harrison classic. I love his treatment/remake of this song

5 of 5 stars  Musiq soulman

This is a perfect neo-seol album. everything about this cd is great. The singles are fantastic and the other cuts are just as definitive. Classic album, better than aijuswannaseing and soulstar, though those two albums are also very good. Musiq's brings what his name promises.

5 of 5 stars  Musiq's best album...

Hands down...this is THE best Musiq album. Everything on this album including the production is tight.

The sequence of tracks is perfectly mixed. Fave tracks for me include "Newness", "Religious" (this one is really old skool), "Dontchange" and I absolutely love "Time".

If you wanna get up and dance, take a listen to "Babygirl". That track is for the jeeps.

I also enjoy listening to his previous album "Ajuswanasing" and "Soulstar" isn't bad but "Juslisen" is good from start to finish. Pick this one up. Real soul music lovers won't be disappointed! Peace..
