The Myst Reader
Book Description
This omnibus edition of the hugely popular Myst trilogy is published to coincide with the release of Myst Revelations, the latest in the line of the bestselling Myst interactive CD-ROM games.

The award-winning Myst series is one of the most successful interactive CD-ROM computer games in history with sales of more than 12 million copies worldwide. Myst captivated the world when it was first conceived and created by brothers Rand and Robyn Miller. Its extraordinary success has gone on to spawn Riven, Myst III Exile, and most recently, Uru: The Ages Beyond Myst. Devoted fans of these surreal adventure games gather yearly at "Mysterium" (whose event sites are spreading to other countries) to exchange game strategies, share stories, and meet up with old friends.

The Myst Reader is a literary companion to the CD-ROM games and a compendium of the bestselling official Myst trilogy: The Book of Atrus, The Book of Ti'ana, and The Book of D'ni. Devoted fans and new players alike will be delighted to have three books in this mythic saga together for the first time in one value-priced volume, which will be published in time to coincide with the long-awaited release of Myst Revelations.

5 of 5 stars  Love the stories, but the book itself.....
Wednesday, January 26, 2005
I was very excited seeing three of my favorite novels brought together into one book! The stories are wonderfully woven together, description meets plot and dialogue without becoming boring. The character's personalities and their environments are realistic. The authors were very dedicated to their story(which is very cool that they're the creators of the games!) Another wonderful bonus is the illustrations. Not a polished, fake picture, but illustrations that have a charming hand-drawn look. Wonderful stories!

However, I was very disappointed that the book was a paperback. With almost a 1,000 pages, the spine is thick and is easy to crease (I'm anal about my book conditions, sorry.) I was also hoping for some extra material, like the map that was included with some of the previous hardcover editions. The extra details and bonuses are one of the best things about the books.

Well, all in all, wonderful stories, great idea of combining them, just make a hardcover and I'll be 100% happy.

5 of 5 stars  Entertaining

All three of these volumes separately brought hours of enjoyment and I became thoroughly in the story throughout. Great purchase.

4 of 5 stars  Very entertaining, even for non-Myst'ers
Friday, September 24, 2004
The books are very entertaining and easy to read. The first book starts with a bang, the relationship between the main character (Atrus) and his father Gehn are determined right from the moment he was born.
After that an interesting tale is told, about the D'ni, an ancient underground culture and the descripting art of writing they developped, which makes it possible to travel to the worlds written. This is the perfect basis for endless twists and plots, and the books are over before you even realize it, making you crave for more.

These are entertaining books for everybody, but for those who played any of the Myst games or Uru, they are an absolute MUST. They complement and explain the games in such a way that they enrich the games no end.

The Myst Reader combines the three books in one volume. Get it now, you won't be disapointed.
