Product Description
Death Row: Snoop Doggy Dogg at His Best [Unreleased]
Description
Chuck D of Public Enemy once prophesized that if artists didn't own their masters (tapes), the masters will own the artists. Well, hip-hop's fave gangster CEO Suge Knight owns most of his former high-profile label mates' master tapes and continues to issue collections of dated works by Tha Dogg Pound, Dr. Dre, and now Snoop. Originally entitled Dead Man Walking to scare the willies out of Snoop, this release comes with a big fat greasy caveat emptor. Sure, this is a ghetto fab collection of the Doggfather's finest pre-No Limit and Doggystyle Records moments dating back to his brilliant cover of Biz Markie's "Vapors" on Tha Doggfather album. That said, Snoop wants nothing to do with this release because he won't receive any proceeds from it and has urged his fans not to buy it. Contractual shenanigans aside, this release is off the hook and contains most of Snoop's finest career headbangers, from "Gin and Juice" to "Who Am I (What's My Name)." A great purchase if you can live with your conscience. --Dalton Higgins

4 of 5 stars  good album But could have been better
Wednesday, January 05, 2005
This is a really good album but for a greatist hits It's a little bit disapointing especialy considering that it's made by Snoop Dogg who is a West Coast legend. Although this album isn't as good as it should be it still has some classic songs like "murder was the case", "It aint no fun", "Gin and Juice", "Who am i(whats my name)" and of course "nuthin but a G thang". But Unfortunately most of the other songs on the album dont live up to those songs I just mentioned. The main reason why this album isn't as good as it should be is because That death row records only had 2 albums by Snoop to use to create his greatist hits. This album is worth gettin but your probably better of just buying "Tha Dogg"

5 of 5 stars  This Is Just A G Thing

Death Row released a collection of Snoop's great hits whilst he was on the label, aptly titled "Death Row's Snoop Doggy Dogg Greatest Hits", back in 2001. The album really shows off Snoop's G-funk style all throughout, making it really perfect to bump in your ride on a hot summers afternoon, though you can't go wrong with it at any time. Since Snoop was long gone from Death Row when it was released, it's kinda a sign that Snoop's classics will last the ages. You can't go wrong with it, so if you want some excellent Snoop pick it up. 5 stars.

1. "Ain't No Fun (If The Homies Can't Have None)" f/Warren G, Kurupt & Nate Dogg
2. "Nuthin' But A G Thang" f/Dr Dre
3. "Gin & Juice"
4. "Who Am I (What's My Name)"
5. "Eastside"

5 of 5 stars  A lot of old classic previously relased material

This is just an attempt for Suge & Death Row to keep eating off Snoop since he left and their label fell apart. However this cd is tight (it has 6 or 7 previously unreleased songs and the rest are mostly from "Doggystyle" w/ 2 from " Tha Doggfater" and one from "The Chronic"). The unreleased songs are pretty good quality and if you like Snoop they're good ones to have, but I'd download them from online (and not support Death Row's "eat off Snoop 6 years later" effort) since you probably have most of the CD already if you are a fan.

#1 - 10 (classic from "The Chronic" f/ Dr. Dre)
#2 - 9.5 (off "Dead Man Walkin" CD f/ Swoop G)
#3 - 10 (classic fom "Doggystyle")
#4 - 9 (f/ Nate Dogg - unreleased song)
#5 - 9 (from "Doggystyle")
#6 - 10 (classic from "Doggystyle f/ Kurupt, Nate Dogg & Warren G)
#7 - 6.5 (remix of "Tha Doggfather")
#8 - 9.5 (laid back track f/ Daz Dillinger & Raphael Saadiq - unreleased)
#9 - 8.5 (f/ Tray Deee & Daz Dillinger - unreleased)
#10 - 10 (classic from "Doggystyle")
#11 - 9.5 (f/ Kurupt & Daz Dillinger (Dogg Pound)and the Dramatics - from "Doggystyle")
#12 - 9 (f/ Daz Dillinger & The Twinz - talkin bout high school days - unreleased)
#13 - 8.5 (from "Tha Doggfather"
#14 - 7.5 (f/ Threat - unreleased)
#15 - 8.5 (f/ Mack 10, Threat, Kurupt, Bad Azz, Techniec - unreleased)
#16 - 3 (rock & roll remix)

It was alright. Two of the unreleased songs were actually worth something. But it wasn't really needed. Mostly all of these tracks you an get on Death Row's Greatest hits! If you are thinking about getting this, or if you want to start listening to Snoop Music, get his earlier albums

1 of 5 stars  Terrible.

The title is an oxymoron. Snoop Dogg at his best is as good as 50 Cent at his worst. All of his songs are about himself, himself, himself, his girls, his money, his house, ect. Also, I'm not a big fan of G-Funk, as all G-Funk songs talk about only the rappers. Snoop Dogg ranks among 50 Cent, Ja Rule, DMX, Master P, Lil Bow Wow, Lil Romeo, Warren G, and RBX as the worst rappers ever.
