Product Description
Cats (1982 Original Broadway Cast)
Description
Andrew Lloyd Webber's adaptation of T.S. Eliot's poems may not have become Broadway's longest-running musical without the original cast to begin the raves. Which is why every aficionado of this theatrical classic will tell you that this is the one you have to own (although they'll probably tell you that you need the import Original London Cast album as well, the show having originated on London's West End and all). But this is the one with Betty Buckley singing "Memory"--the song that turned her into a star--and the two discs are appropriate for the musical that helped set off Broadway's "operatic" phase. The show is now also available--in its entirety--as a home video, but the music still stands on its own, though some cynics have wondered why so much music only produced one hit standard. --Bill Holdship

1 of 5 stars  Why can't I select zero stars?
Sunday, February 27, 2005
This is the stupidest musical ever written. You have to be one of those people who actually believes that cats are people in order to get anything at all out of this. "Memory" is a great song, but would have been better in another musical where it could have meant something.

1 of 5 stars  Spay The Cats!
Saturday, February 19, 2005
I love Cats for the fact it brought more attention back to Broadway but, sadly this musical is a musical that can be slept through. Don't get me wrong I'm certainly not a Webber hater or anything- in fact I'm a Phantom fan but, this musical is a disgrace.

There really is no plot and the only 2 good songs I think are "Memory" and "Rum Tum Tugger." I made the mistake of taking a cousin to see the show throughout the whole performance she kept asking me when we could go home and the highlight of her theater expierience was buying a beanie baby during intermission. The show is long and drawn out and it's boring. The only cat I really liked was Rum Tum Tugger for the rest of the Cats seemed boring. Before you buy this C.D. also ask yourself how interesting can a show about cats be?

This is one of the worst musicals ever produced and I strongly recommend if your interested in Webber to buy "Phantom of The Opera" and please let New York City spay the cats!

1 of 5 stars  Worst CD EVER!!!
Tuesday, December 28, 2004
This is the single most disgraceful piece of music I have ever heard in my entire life. Andrew Lloyd Webber should be ashamed as a musician and admit his awful flaw. The music has no range in melody whatsoever and the lyrics don't blend in at all with the poorly written music and script. A CD like "Wicked" has beautiful lyrics and equally blending music. THAT is what you want from a CD of a musical. You don't want 3 hours of poorly sung nonsense about a bunch of street cats living behind a dumpster. I have been to countless shows and from my viewpoint, this CD lacks everything a CD should have. How a worthless piece of junk like "Cats" ran on a broadway stage for so long is a complete disgrace and mystery to me and should also be to you.
