Description
With its heavy-duty distortion, weighty rhythms, and cynical lyrics, Tool is a heavy metal band for the '90s. Rather like Metallica circa ...And Justice for All, the sound is focused heavily on texture, with vocals and guitars layered one atop the other, and heart-pounding drums underlying everything. There's not a whole lot of variety on Tool's second full-length album--most of the songs start off fairly low-key, kicking into high gear for the chorus, and repeat--but Maynard James Keenan's distinctive voice, the prog-rock stylings over a heavy metal base, and a supremely unhealthy dose of vitriol make this the perfect album to bang your head to. --Genevieve Williams

1 of 5 stars  oohhhhhhhh

tool sucks. people who like this band must have a thing for untalented music. all their crap is unoriginal and the three chords they play will never get them in to the rocker's hall of fame just like the rest of the alternative and nu metal bands. their version of industrial has really brought this genre down. industrial is good when it's done right like skinny puppy.

I can honestly say that Tool's Aenima and Deftone's White Pony are my two favorite albums of all time. Passenger, on White Pony, that combines both Maynard and Chino is probably my favorite song.

Anyone who can find one flaw in this album should have their head examined. I normally am not cocky like this, but give the album a listen and you will understand why.

Also reccomended:

Around the Fur - Deftones
Lateralus - Tool
Mer de Noms - A Perfect Circle

5 of 5 stars  MAYNARD IS PROBABLY GOD
Thursday, May 12, 2005
no maynard probably isnt god, but he should be.

All i need to say is........................................................................................................... whoever can possibly sit there and say anything bad about this album in anyway needs to either smoke some weed, or open their mind, hehe

no, im kidding about the weed thing (i think) but im absolutely confident that this is the best album in the world (ABSOLUTELY NOT EXAGERATING) and i dont feel that i even need to argue that point because i would have to be arguing with a freakin ape or something.

p.s. apes through their own poop, its cool

5 of 5 stars  Epic masterpiece - OPEN YOUR MIND...
Tuesday, May 10, 2005
This record is very important, and should be listened to by all who appreciate art. Too bad that the very thing most of us appreciate about it (it takes SEVERAL listens to sink in) is probably the reason it doesn't get more widespread acceptance. Oh well, I consider myself lucky to have found this record and Tool's other work.

Simply put: Sure, you can bang your head to Aenima, but sit back and listen! Take it all in and let it expand your mind. And remember, it's OK to be confused....

This album is superb - check it out.

5 of 5 stars  In 'MY' opinion, simply one of the best albums ever.
Saturday, May 07, 2005
I've found myself up late, sitting at home, bored sh**less and can't sleep, thought I'd crank up some Tool, surf the net for a while, you know. Anyway(!), since I was listening to Aenima I thought I'd jump on and check out some reviews, see what other people think of it.

I particularly focused on all the negative and 1-2 star reviews. Now I have to admit, some of you have very good points about why you don't like this album, which is fine, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Heck, that's what keeps this planet interesting, is it not?

Now I've just listened to the album from start to finish, again, and I can't flaw it! I just can't! So my advice is, forget all the hype, forget what everyone else thinks and decide for yourself.

Personally, I don't think you'll regret your purchase, but if you do, I really fell sorry for you, cause you're not hearing this album the way I am - pure perfection!

Excuse the pun, but Aenima is simply music to my ears! Well done Tool!
