3 of 5 stars  Paul stays in "Carrack-ter" with latest cd...
Tuesday, January 20, 2004
I am sure Paul Carrack may know the beginning of many of his own reviews in his past by heart...the ones that say "You know the voice, but not the name". That's what I say when I tell my friends how great of artist/singer/song writer Paul Carrack really is. Sadly, there is nothing on this CD that will add to his "musical legend". While I wouldn't go as far as one reviewer who said,"Now each of his songs play as if created by a focus group of Adult Contemporary listeners", the tone of "It Ain't Over" does continue from his last 2 releases.

Still, there is no reason to dismiss "It Ain't Over". It's good from beginning to end. The sad part is that all of the tunes are much better that a lot of what you hear on radio today. Paul doesn't have a place on the radio, at least not here in the US. Not even adult contemporary! It's a shame too, because there are a few tunes on "It Ain't Over" that are worthy of that airplay. "She Lived Down the Street", "Happy to See You Again" and "Empty Space" would fit nicely.

Bottom line, if your a Paul Carrack fan, then this is something to add to your collection. If your a more recent convert to Paul, buy the "One Good Reason" CD and the "Paul Carrack in Concert" DVD. You will not go wrong with any of them.

5 of 5 stars  Highly enjoyable
Sunday, January 18, 2004
One of the most talented artists in music history does it again. Another excellent collection of work by Paul Carrack! Hearing Paul's vocals on this new CD made me realize why he has always been so enjoyable to listen to. Not only is his voice a perfect match to the music level but his uncanny ability to harmonize with the notes is remarkable. Not only does he add to the quality of the music with his voice but his words are prefectly melted with each song.
If your purchasing this CD be sure to check out Paul's collection of work over the years. You won't be dissapointed :).

2 of 5 stars  Welcome to musical oblivion
Monday, November 10, 2003
In recent years, Carrack has been busily whittling away all the characteristics that made him unique. He has succeeded. Now each of his songs plays as if created by a focus group of Adult Contemporary listeners. Listening to this bland soup, one would never know that Carrack is (was?) a superior keyboard player, or that he made a fine album like Suburban Voodoo. This effort reminds me of Karl Kraus' aphorism: "She lacked only a flaw to be perfect." Like a person who has all distinguishing characteristics removed by plastic surgery, Carrack no longer has rough edges, or a reason to be taken seriously as a musician. Compare his slide into oblivion with another long-time pop artist, Robert Palmer, who never stopped taking chances, and went out on a distinctively creative high with his CD "Drive"

4 of 5 stars  WONDERFUL SOULFUL/POP
Tuesday, October 07, 2003
who is singing that song ?? thats what you get when people overhear a song sung by this wonderful songwriter !
it aint over continues the growth and strength in songwriting paul has shown over the years and this is one of his best !
this album starts off with a bouncy "she lived down the street"
a catchy pop song as anybody has written !
it then slows to a couple of soothing songs in "nothing to lose and the title track"it aint over"
then we get another fast tempo poppy "happy to see you again" much similar in style to live down the street
"where did i go wrong" is another bluesy soulful song
the next thee tracks are solid ballads and the first one "empty space" is my favourite but then "forever" is as good a love song as you will ever hear
the album finishes on the raunchy fast paced song "aint no love " which gets you singing along with paul
all in all this is one of paul carracks finest albums it is just a shame that the populous have not listened in yet !
do yourself a favour and buy this album and enjoy one of the finest songwriters and voices in song today!

5 of 5 stars  It Ain't Over - It's only really begun!!

Paul Carrack is one of those artists whose voice everybody knows and whose name is only known by serious music lovers, which is an atrocity. The quality of this music cannot be overstated. His rich vocals and his expert hooks get me every single time, and I never tire of listening to him. Nothin' To Lose is a particular favorite, as is Happy To See You Again, and as a love song Forever eclipses anything else you're going to find out there today. An exceptional CD by an exceptionally talented and gracious man. Order this CD and have it RUSHED to you -- then complete your collection with the remainder of his solo work!
