great songs don't necessarily make great radio playsTuesday, June 20, 2000
The heavy handed dramatic interpretation of "harris and the mare" rendered stan & co.s' interludes, although beautiful, somewhat forced and awkward amid the melodrama. I didn't realize stan had meant for his protagonist to come off as a cradle robbing christ figure. Bookended by the program's twilight-zone-ish camp, the work's folky feel seems mismatched. But hey, its still stan and i'm sure i'll give it quite a few more listens before any dust settles on it.
